No win, no fee debt recovery: how the commission model works

Commission-only debt recovery means you pay nothing to recover an overdue account unless we actually collect — the cost is a percentage of what comes back. This page explains exactly how that model works.

Commission-only debt recovery — sometimes called no win, no fee — is the standard commercial model used by Merion and by most professional debt recovery agencies in Australia for commercial accounts. The concept is straightforward: the recovery agent earns a commission only when it actually collects money on your behalf, and that commission is calculated as a percentage of the amount recovered. If nothing is collected on an account, no commission is payable on it.

The model aligns the interests of the creditor and the recovery agent — we only earn when you do. It also means that referring an account carries no upfront financial risk: if an account proves unrecoverable, you have not paid for an unsuccessful attempt.

How we help

Recovery tailored to how you get paid

Commission on recovery only

You pay nothing until we collect. The commission is a percentage of the amount actually recovered, agreed in writing before we start.

Per-account charging

Commission is calculated account by account. An account where nothing is recovered costs you nothing; an account where full payment comes back earns a commission on the recovered amount.

Agreed in writing first

The commission rate is confirmed in your client agreement before any work begins — no hidden charges, no surprises.

Aligned incentives from day one

We only earn when you recover — that alignment shapes everything we do.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What commission rates apply?

Commission rates vary depending on the age, size and complexity of the account, and are confirmed in writing in your client agreement before we start. We do not quote specific rates here because they vary — the honest answer requires knowing your accounts.

What if the debtor pays part of the account?

Commission is calculated on the amount actually recovered. A partial recovery earns a commission on the recovered portion; the balance remains in recovery.

Are there any other charges?

Not for standard commercial recovery. Some legal escalation steps — where a court or tribunal is involved — carry their own costs, which we discuss honestly with you before they arise. There are no hidden charges in standard recovery.

Can I withdraw an account if I change my mind?

Yes. Accounts can be withdrawn at any time without penalty. No commission is charged on an account that has not been collected.
