How do I dispute a debt?

Disputes & complaints

If you believe a debt is not owed, the amount is incorrect, or you do not recognise it, you are entitled to dispute it. You can also ask us to verify the debt before you respond further.

Use the Dispute a Debt form to set out your position. Explain clearly why you are disputing the account and include any dates, amounts or documents that support what you are saying.

Where there is a genuine dispute, recovery activity is generally paused while the matter is reviewed. We will look into it with the original creditor and respond to you in writing. Raising a dispute is a normal part of the process — it is far better than leaving an account you disagree with unanswered.
