Can I ask for documents that prove the debt?

Disputes & complaints

Yes. If you would like a debt verified before you respond further, you are entitled to ask. Asking for verification is a reasonable and routine request, and it is often the quickest way to resolve any genuine uncertainty.

When you make a verification request, we obtain supporting information from the original creditor — which may include the underlying invoices, the contract or terms of trade, and an account history showing how the amount was reached.

To request verification, use the Dispute a Debt form or contact us directly, quoting your reference number. While verification is underway, we will not expect you to pay an amount you have genuinely asked us to confirm.
